Pepsi get the bandwagon rolling...

And we're off. The plethora of Africa-themed World Cup adverts that are set to dominate our screens for the next five months has it's first effort, and it's just as we suspected. Pepsi have gone for every cliché in the book - the Ladysmith Black Mambazo-style music, the dusty and sunny setting, the textbook meet-and-greet-and-have-a-bit-of-banter-with-the-locals script.

And yet, you know what? It still raises a smile here at ToePoke. Though probably only because we just can't ruddy wait for the World Cup. Or we're just getting soft...

Fuck Akon and fuck Pepsi. Nine out of every ten prostitutes in South Africa have AIDS. Fact. Make an advert out of that depressing statistic, you fucking corporate scum. Hang on, this waiter's asking me something. 'Yeah, bottle of Pepsi please, pal.'

Chill man - it also features Frank Lampard dribbling, so it's definitely set in a fictional world...

Hahaha... sorry mate, I didn't mean to put a downer on or spoil the excitement of your trip to South Africa. I want one of those Pepsi shirts that Henry and co. are rocking, by the way..

Worry not, you didn't put a downer on anything young Aaron. I probably shouldn't have watched that Panorama documentary though - definitely not planning on booking a taxi in Soweto any time soon.

Nope, I'll happily go to Saffa believing it'll be like Pepsi's vision, not that of a hard-hitting Beeb documentary...

I've been to South Africa, and that documentary gave me the willies. NEver let it be said that the Beeb don't engage in aggressive Scaremongering.
