Robbie in the shirt of the only club he ever wanted to play for. Apart from Celtic. And er, Spurs. Probably.

ToePoke's celebrity columnist, and Spurs fan, Juice FM's Guy Lloyd, reveals why his love for 'Super-Keano' is on the wane...

Robbie Keane’s move to Celtic from Spurs was the biggest transfer of an otherwise dull January transfer window. Tottenham manager, Harry Redknapp was quick to stress that it was just a loan and that Celtic ‘probably couldn’t afford to buy him.’ Privately, I think Harry hopes that Keane bags a hatful of goals in the Scottish Premiership between now and the end of the season, so that the likes of Villa or Sunderland come in with a big offer, come the summer. I think it’s also safe to say that Keane’s career at Tottenham is as good as over.

As a Tottenham fan, I probably speak for most the White Hart Lane faithful, in saying that it came as no surprise and that his return from his ill-fated move to Liverpool, didn’t work out as we and Keane would have hoped. Keane himself is a player that can’t stay on the bench for too long. He’s become a nomadic figure drifting through football and yet he’s still in his twenties. The cynic in me would say that he may enjoy the odd signing-on fee but I think fans of Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan, Leeds, Spurs (twice), Liverpool and now Celtic, would say that he’s an honest player and that he’s always given 100%. Until, that is, he either gets dropped or he gets his ‘dream move.’ And here lies my problem with Robbie Keane.

Let’s backtrack to July 2008. Robbie Keane seemingly settled at Spurs (the longest spell he’s ever had at a club) after six years, suddenly has his head turned by Liverpool. Suddenly, Robbie Keane comes out the football closet and openly declares his love for the Reds, by saying, ‘I’m a Kop fan and joining Liverpool is a lifelong dream.’ OK, thanks Robbie. I had no idea, you never mentioned that before. I was stunned. Tottenham fans were stunned. But £20 million was good business and who am I to stand in the way of anyone living their dream? As we all know now, Keane was rubbish for Liverpool but still endeared himself to Spurs by scoring a brilliant goal against the arse and then returning to the Lane less than a year later. I love a happy ending.

But wait, what’s this? Keane’s still rubbish and all is not well at the Lane. Celtic swoop on the last day of the transfer window. Keane’s flown to Scotland and by the end of the day, he’s in the green and white hoops declaring his love for Celtic; ‘I’ve been a Celtic fan for years. I’ve dreamt of this day.’

Hold on a minute. I’ve heard this before. How many dreams Robbie? How many childhoods? How many teams do you support? Whose next? L.A Galaxy? Cork City?

If ever there was a footballer with commitment issues, Robbie Keane is that man. I just hope Mrs.Keane signed a pre-nuptial.
