Big Nels found out that TP were coming...
That's right, everyone's favourite half-arsed football blog will be descending upon Saffa next summer...
While thousands of football fans will be scrambling for flights, tickets, hotels and malaria jabs as we speak, the smug bastards who booked it all well in advance can sit back with pint-in-hand and wonder just which of the big five they most want to spot at Kruger Safari Park next summer.
Well, we've refrained from blowing our trumpet about it thus far, but among those smug bastards are your trusty ToePokers right here. Flights booked? Check. Dodgy-looking hostels sorted? Check (one even includes a jacuzzi. Mental.) And as for tickets? Well...
...way back in February of this year, on what must be admitted was a bit of a whim, we applied for several tickets through the FIFA website and somewhat surprisingly (they obviously didn't contact Interpol) we were successful – shelling out for four random matches in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. Those of you unsure about your South Africa geography, let us tell you that's not exactly walking distance.
So we waited with added anticipation to find out just which games we'd been allocated, and we can gladly report we've got some corkers:
13th June: ToePoke@ Durban – Germany v Australia
18th June: ToePoke@ Cape Town – England v Algeria (that's right folks!)
23rd June: ToePoke@ Jo'Burg – Ghana v Germany
28th June: ToePoke@ Durban – Winners Group E (probably Holland) v Runners-up Group F (we reckon Paraguay)
So there you go, we can hang with the English hoolies in Cape Town, drink gallons of lager with the Germans and “go native” with the Algerians and Ghanians. Tremendous.
We'll be out there for the full month, hanging round in Jo'Burg following the group games, no doubt trying to get our mugs on global TV coverage while wearing ToePoke tshirts made by our mothers. It'll also mean that, unless we're mugged within the first week, you'll be reaping the rewards with daily blog posts and twitter updates from the tournament. Needless to say, we feel like Rik Waller in a kebab shop tonight, and can't ruddy wait.
But we don't know why we're getting all excited, there's still 188 days to go. We've got Wigan v Birmingham to come tomorrow first. Yippee...
