"Attention all: Gordon Taylor send his love. Unless you're shit in front of goal. In which case you can rot..."

The PFA chief gets himself in a muddle...

"The PFA does not represent players when they have broken the law and been convicted on non-footballing matters."

So said creepy-looking PFA chief Gordon Taylor the other day when questioned about the reason for not lending his support to serial twat Marlon King. Far be it for us to suggest that the PFA should defend footballers who beat up women, but the party line does seem a tad ambiguous given statements made following the convictions of other similar footballing crims.

Such as back in May last year, when one Joey Barton was jailed for six months after being found guilty of assault. Described as acting in an “extremely violent and aggressive manner” during drunken attacks on a man and a 16-year-old boy in Liverpool city centre, you'd think that would qualify under the PFA's rules as a non-footballing matter.

Odd then, to hear Taylor's comments at that time as thus:

“Whether he has a future at Newcastle will be a decision for the club. When a player has ability, there will always be clubs looking to take the opportunity to improve things and I hope that is the case. I believe every individual should have the chance to reform themselves. It is a crying shame for a player who clearly is very talented. When you speak to the lad he can be very articulate, sensible and intelligent.”

So what's the different here then Gord? Why are you not lending similar support to Marlon King? We can come to only one conclusion: it's because he's shit...
